Jim Ross Reveals Who He Wants Brock Lesnar To Fight In A Dream Match

Brock Lesnar won the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33 from Bill Goldberg and hasn’t been seen since. The next Monday Night Raw exclusive pay-per-view will be Extreme Rules and features a match pitting five men against each other for the right to fight Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire in July.

Interestingly, when WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross was asked by The A.V. Club who he thought was the biggest dream match in his mind for Brock Lesnar, none of the five men in that Extreme Rules match made the cut. Instead, Jim Ross said that he wants to see Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman.

“I’m a different cat though, man. I’d like to see Braun Strowman – in a big build-up – against [Brock] Lesnar. I think that’d be a nice car crash.”

The good news for Jim Ross and WWE fans is that the Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman match might happen as soon as August at SummerSlam. While the Braun Strowman elbow injury caused him to miss Extreme Rules, he should be back in time for the big cross-promotional pay-per-view in August.

At Extreme Rules, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Bray Wyatt, and Samoa Joe will battle with the winner getting a shot at Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire in Dallas in July. The early rumors indicate that Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns will begin a feud after that, which will take up time as the WWE wants to save Roman for a meeting with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34.

Brock Lesnar has missed the last two months thanks to his part-time schedule, and that has likely hurt the WWE Monday Night Raw brand since their main champion is missing from the TV shows. The WWE rumors indicate that Brock Lesnar will be back much more towards the end of the year and the WWE has plenty of opponents lined up for him.

For one thing, Seth Rollins is rumored to be getting a shot at the WWE Universal Championship sometime in the next few months. Finn Balor is also supposed to get a shot at Brock Lesnar, but smart booking would save that until later at either Survivor Series or Royal Rumble.

If the WWE goes with the Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns feud and continues on with the Bray Wyatt vs. Finn Balor feud, that could set up Samoa Joe for his first-ever shot at a WWE world title at Great Balls of Fire. Sadly, the live crowds aren’t reacting to Samoa Joe as well as expected, so that is still up in the air.

Meanwhile, the odd man out is Braun Strowman. Before his elbow surgery, the plans were for Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman to wrestle at Extreme Rules in an Ambulance Match to pay off the use of ambulances over their feud. The injury ruined that option.

The idea was for the Ambulance Match to also be able to determine the No. 1 contender to Brock Lesnar and the Universal Championship and that Braun Strowman would win without having to pin Roman Reigns again.

Braun Strowman would then face Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire with a rematch at SummerSlam. Meanwhile, Roman Reigns was looking to start a feud with The Miz. The injury to Braun Strowman seems to have changed all the plans the WWE had for Roman Reigns.

However, and this should make Jim Ross happy, it appears that the time frame for Braun Strowman to return was stretched out a bit and he will be back sooner than fans were told. He can then use his return to show that he is a Monster Among Men and lead to his feud and match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam in August.
