‘Baywatch’ Stars, Dwayne Johnson And Zac Efron, Are On Board For A Sequel And Producers Love The Idea

Baywatch just came out in theatres this weekend, but the producer and stars, Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, are already all on board to do a sequel. A Baywatch movie franchise could be happening in the years to come despite what critics are saying about the movie

Beau Flynn, the producer of Baywatch, spoke to Variety at a screening in New York City. He talked about bringing the Baywatch cast back together for a sequel, even though the film has only been in theatres for a couple days. Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson are two of the cast members that have said they would be interested in doing a Baywatch sequel. Flynn would also include the writers of the first movie, Damien Shannon and Mark Swift.

Flynn said that there is already a storyline in the works for a Baywatch sequel. He wants to take them to a different setting completely by taking the movie overseas.

Kelly Rohrback, who plays the role that was previously played by Pamela Anderson in the hit television series, said that she would be on board for a Baywatch sequel, too, as she told Variety.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better cast on my first film. These guys are awesome.”

Rohrback continued to say that the Baywatch cast were like a family and everyone was generous and lovely and hilarious to work with. She thinks that comes through on the screen and based on the success of the first weekend in the theatres, Baywatch fans think so, too.

As she mentioned, this is Kelly Rohrback’s first film. Before Baywatch she was a swimsuit model.

Alexandra Daddario also said that she’d love to do a Baywatch sequel. She agreed that the cast was made up of amazing people. She also said that being part of a franchise is a great way to get more work. Traveling the world was another perk of being in a franchise for Daddario.

Dwayne Johnson is no stranger to the movie franchise business. The Fast and Furious movie franchise has been very successful. In fact, Men’s Fitness says that Johnson is working with Jason Statham to do a Fast and Furious spinoff. If the success of the Fast and Furious movies is any indication, they may be on to something awesome.

Dwayne will also be returning to San Andreas 2 and finishing his role on Rampage. Where the Baywatch sequel will fit in is yet to be seen.

Johnson has hosted Saturday Night Live five times, and on one of them he joked and called himself, “movie franchise Viagra,” indicating that any movie franchise he gets involved with will be likely to do well. If things go the same way with Baywatch, fans can look forward to seeing a lot of Dwayne Johnson in the future.

If this Baywatch sequel happens, Dwayne Johnson will have two of his very own movie franchises. The connection between Baywatch and San Andreas (his first franchise of his own) is his co-star, Alexandria Daddario. She played his daughter in San Andreas and is going to be in San Andreas 2, as well. The two do work well together. Vulture suspects that the combination of Alexandria Daddario and Dwayne Johnson is “The secret weapon that the Rock has been waiting for to clinch his own big-budget franchises.”

Baywatch opened in theatres on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 and had first night box office sales of $1.25 million. While this isn’t incredibly high sales for the first night, it is expected to bring in more than $30 million.

Have you seen Baywatch in theaters yet? If you did, would you want to see a Baywatch sequel?
