U.S. Marshal Arrested For Blowing Agent’s Cover

A U.S. Marshall was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly told his father about the identity of an undercover agent.

According to the Associated Press, Lucio Osbaldo Moya told his father, who is accused of being involved with a drug trafficking ring in Texas, about the identity of an undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent. Court documents state that Moya’s father gave the U.S. Marshall a photocopy of a driver’s license. Moya reportedly took the photo to work and found out that it belonged to an undercover agent. He then relayed the information to his father.

Moya initially lied about where he got the photocopy of the agent’s license but eventually admitted that he had received it from his father. Moya said that he wanted to make his father a paid informant to take down the drug trafficking ring.

According to court documents, Moya also claimed that he sent his father several text messages about the photo. Moya claims that he wrote: “Be very careful and not to be hanging around illegal activity / Dad where did you get this paper / Dad this guy is an agent; you can’t tell anyone what is going on; and you will need to talk to someone here.”

Those text messages were all deleted.

U.S. Marshal Lucio Osbaldo Moya could face up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted for being an accessory after the fact and obstruction.
