Curvy model Ashley Graham started turning the heat up several days before the Memorial Day Weekend. The 29-year-old recently posed in a striking gold bikini as she flaunted her figure in preparation for the holiday.
Graham posted the photo to her Instagram on Wednesday, where it received over 200,000 likes from her 4.2 million followers. Ashley is clearly ready for a vacation in the image as she sprawls across the sand and surf. She included a telling caption as she informed her fans she’s looking forward to the three-day weekend.
“Prepping for Memorial Day weekend like -“
Ashley can be seen arching her back as she gazes at the camera. Of course, the image isn’t complete without the model’s barely-there thong bikini. Her fans took to commenting on the post as they showed their support and appreciation of Graham’s body-positivity. Some fans claimed Ashley gives them inspiration, while others simply stated “love this pic.”
“My inspiration love you so much.”
There are also those commenters who proposed marriage to the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model as they expressed their admiration. Keeping with the light-hearted comments, some fans made jokes about how graceful Ashley looks posing on the sand compared to their less flawless attempts.
But fans also had a serious side when commenting as they informed Graham she is responsible for lifting up their self-confidence.
“I actually think that I’m beginning to love myself a little bit more after looking at your pictures and reading your words. Thank you.”
While Graham portrays herself as a confident woman promoting positivity, the model has indeed struggled with negative comments regarding her appearance. StyleCaster reported on Ashley stating she cried over hateful comments on her Sports Illustrated cover last year.
“Ashley Graham was the latest subject of web trolls after backlash over her 2016 Sports Illustrated cover (which she looked damn good in, btw) made her cry.”
The article goes on to state that Graham received a lot of praise for her bikini-clad SI cover, but there were those who had hurtful things to say on social media. Ashley discussed the comments during her time on the Steve Harvey Show, reported StyleCaster.
“I don’t normally cry from Instagram comments because I’ve heard it all. But in this moment, I cried because all I saw was, ‘Oh, you put a heffer in the magazine.'”
The model went on to quote more of the Instagram comments that brought her to tears.
“[There were] women [saying], ‘Oh, I’m over here working out 24/7, but a girl who doesn’t even go to the gym gets to be in the pages of Sports Illustrated?'”
Because of these harsh comments and criticisms, Graham said she felt as if her appearance on the cover was a negative thing for the magazine.
“I felt like I had ruined Sports Illustrated. I felt like I had taken it down a notch.”
However, Ashley’s SI cover was applauded by many as the magazine works to include a variety of women in its newer editions. But fans and followers of her Instagram account can attest to the negative remarks the model constantly receives from people now called “body shamers.”
In fact, her Memorial Day bikini post received some hateful comments despite so many of her fans showing support. One Instagram user said the image isn’t sexy in their opinion.
“Noo. This is just not that sexy?. Its a little distasteful IMO.”
Another “hater” stated they hope Graham’s holiday weekend includes gym days as they imply the curvaceous model should work out more.
“Hope that includes multiple gym days!”
Of course, there are also those who call out said haters for leaving such unnecessary remarks on Graham’s account. Hopefully, she isn’t reading the comments and is instead enjoying her Memorial Day weekend — thong bikini and all.
