Jenelle Evans’ Mom, Barbara, Says She’s Happy There Was No Trial, Says It Wouldn’t Have Been Good For Jenelle

Jenelle Evans was reportedly devastated that yesterday’s court date with her mother, Barbara, didn’t end in her finally reclaiming full custody of her son, Jace, 7. The pair have been fighting over him for several years, and most recently have been using him in a pawn in their bitter war with each other.

Several years ago, Jenelle Evans signed over custody of her eldest son to her mother due to the fact that she was struggling with drug addiction and other mental health issues. Barbara planned to give Jenelle her son back once she got her “act together,” however now that it has taken so long for Jenelle to do so, Barbara isn’t too keen on uprooting her grandson.

The pair were set to duke it out in court yesterday, however they ended up in mediation instead of a trial. In the end, this meant that the two reached a more concrete visitation schedule, so that Barbara couldn’t control when and if Jenelle saw her son.

The agreement will be revisited at a later date, when Jenelle will try and get custody of her son back again.

Although she has remained silent on social media, she made a statement to E! News.

“I’m not restricted to when my mom says I can have my son anymore. And at the moment that’s all I care about. [I] just want to spend time with my son. He will be home one day but today wasn’t the day, sadly.”

Jenelle also said that the judge told her mother she could no longer be “selfish” with her son, Jace, and had to start thinking of his best interest and not her own.

“I’m really happy we could to a decision for Jace but it doesn’t change my feelings towards my mom,” Jenelle Evans added. “She still isn’t giving up my son to me but I will fight again in the future when the time is right.”

Barbara, however, told Radar Online, that going through a trial would have been the worst possible thing for the young mother-of-three. According to Barbara, there are a lot of things people don’t know about Jenelle Evans, and all of it would have been made public had there been an actual trial.

“I am glad we settled. She didn’t want to go through [court]. It would have been awful for her. There are a lot of things that people don’t know about Jenelle.”

Barbara also stated that she thinks Jenelle actually thought she would be getting Jace back in court today, and therefore she was devastated when it didn’t go to plan.

Before Jenelle Evans went to court over the custody of her child, she asked her fans and followers on Twitter to pray for her, saying that it was finally time for her to get her son back from her mother.

Jenelle Evans had said in the past that if she got custody of her son, she would never speak to her mother again, which likely weighed heavily on the judge’s decision to keep Jace at Barbara’s house. As the pair have grown close, it would be horrible to have him ripped away from Barbara without ever seeing her again.

Jenelle recently shared that Jace loves her and her mother equally and that she doesn’t want that to ever change.

“Jace doesn’t have a ‘side.’ He loves me and my mother equally and that will never change. I’m okay with that, too. I tell Jace and explain that me and my mom try to get along, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out,” she recently told E! News.
