Long-Term Plans Revealed For Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title Reign, Future Opponents Revealed

Brock Lesnar has not appeared on WWE programming since the post-WrestleMania 33 edition of Monday Night Raw, but his return is likely to happen shortly after WWE Extreme Rules. At the PPV, there will be a Fatal Five Way to determine who will receive the first title shot against The Beast at the WWE Great Balls of Fire PPV in July. The winner of that match and most of Brock’s coming challengers have now been revealed.

It’s being reported that Brock Lesnar is more likely to defend the WWE Universal Title against Finn Balor or Seth Rollins at WWE Great Balls of Fire. Either way, the expectation is that Lesnar will walk out of the PPV still the champion. Paul Heyman made an appearance on Raw this week to sing the praises of Balor and to put him over the Fatal Five Way. Most people are expecting Finn Balor to come out of the match the winner.

Unfortunately, WWE officials were forced to change their plans after Braun Strowman’s elbow injury. WWE officials were planning to have Lesnar vs. Strowman at WWE Great Balls of Fire, but the Fatal Five Way was made after Strowman’s elbow surgery. However, the expectation is Strowman will recover in time for WWE SummerSlam and the match with Brock will come to fruition only a month removed from the original plan.

Before his injury, Braun Strowman was red-hot and being featured as a top heel on Raw each week. There is some speculation about WWE officials putting the Universal Title on Strowman’s shoulder, but there is a lot of time to gossip about that over the summer. As of this writing, Brock Lesnar is expected to hold the WWE Universal Title beyond WWE SummerSlam and face every participant in the Fatal Five Way sooner or later.

It’s being said that The Beast Incarnate will be taking some more time off from WWE after the summer, but he’s expected to defend the Universal Title a lot before WrestleMania 34. The expectation is Balor or Rollins will face Brock at the WWE Great Balls of Fire PPV, but whoever does not win the Fatal Five Way will have their chance down the line along with Bray Wyatt and Samoa Joe at some point over the rest of the year. It’s unlikely that Lesnar will drop the title to any of these men either unless plans change or he suffers an injury.

Roman Reigns is the only one who is exempt from a WWE Universal Title shot because he’s expected to face Brock Lesnar on the grandest stage of them all next year in New Orleans. There is some speculation that it’ll be Lesnar’s final match for WWE since his contract expires after WrestleMania 34. On paper, Roman could be booked to retire The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar in consecutive years on the grandest stage of them all.

The WWE Universe isn’t thrilled about The Beast Incarnate being gone for months at a time with the WWE Universal Championship. There are many pros and cons to the title being taken away from WWE television, but the consensus from the WWE Universe is that it’s unfair to the locker room and full-time performers.

In the past, WWE officials have stripped other WWE Superstars of their championships due to the “thirty-day” rule, but Lesnar is about to go three months without defending the richest prize in the company. Based on the rumored plans from now through WrestleMania 34, the top guys on Raw will all have their chance to face The Beast Incarnate. The WWE Universe will have to accept the WWE Universal Title being gone for a few months at a time.
