Drake, Beyonce, And Twenty One Pilots Dominated The 2017 Billboard Music Awards: Zayn Malik Won Top New Artist


Drake, Beyonce, and Twenty One Pilots were the big winners of the 2017 Billboard Music Awards last night. Zayn won the Billboard Music Award for Top New Artist while Drake and Beyonce swept up most of the other awards in categories they were eligible for.

Drake walked away with exactly 13 awards last night, according to Billboard. Drake’s baker’s dozen awards gave him an all-time record for the most Billboard awards by a single artist in the same year. Adele previously held that record at 12.

Drake one-upped Adele for Billboard Music Awards’ winning streaks in a nearly clean sweep. Adele was nominated for only two awards this year but Beyonce won instead in both of Adele’s possible categories.

Beyonce won five of the 2017 Billboard Music Awards including one for best R&B Album.

Twenty One Pilots also won five awards, including the 2017 Billboard Chart Achievement Award, and Duo or Group. Guns and Roses were nominated for this award as well, but Twenty One Pilots prevailed.

Cher was given the Icon Award, while Metallica won for the 2017 Billboard Music Award for best Rock Album for Hardwired… To Self Destruct.

Drake won the 2017 Billboard Music Award for Artist of the Year which is the most highly coveted, Drake was also honored with the Billboard Music Award for Top Male Artist. Drake’s competing nominees for Male Artist included Justin Bieber, Future, Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd.

Beyonce had also been nominated for the 2017 Billboard Music Award for Top Artist, along with Adele, Justin Bieber, The Chainsmokers, Twenty One Pilots, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes and Rihanna. Still, Drake took the main award.

Beyonce won the Billboard Music Award for the Top Female Artist. Beyonce’s competition for Female Artist included Adele, Ariana Grande, and Rihanna.

Drake won both the Billboard Top 200 Artist and the Billboard Top Hot 100 Artist. Drake also took home the Top Song Sales Artist. Drake is also the king of streaming, with is new Top Streaming Songs Artist Award.

While Drake, Beyonce, and Twenty One Pilots won most of the music awards, BTS had the largest fan support, according to People who reported that over 1,000 people were waiting for BTS to arrive at the Las Vegas Airport. The BTS fans were also the loudest in the awards ceremony audience. BTS’s Rap Monster told People, his fans still surprise him with their dedication.

“It’s so crazy and still so surprising. It’s not easy waiting for someone for hours. We’re so lucky to have fans like those.”

Beyonce got credit twice for her fabulous tour. Beyonce won the 2017 Billboard Music Award for the Top Touring Artist and for having the Top R&B Tour. Beyonce was also named the Top R&B Artist.

Drake took the Top Rap Artist award and the Top Rap Tour award. Drake also received the Top Streaming Song award for “One Dance,” which was a collaborative effort with WizKid & Kyla. “One Dance” also won for Top R&B Collaboration.

Drake received the Billboard Top 200 Album and the Rap Album Award for his Views album. Beyonce and Twenty One Pilots were also big winners.

Drake did lose out on the Billboard Music Award for the Top Rap Song. That honor went to Desiigner for their song “Panda.”
