‘Rogue One’ Actor Spotted On ‘Han Solo’ Set

Warning: The following article may contain SPOILERS for the still-untitled Han Solo film, as well as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Diego Luna has reportedly been spotted on the set of the new Han Solo film, which has led to increased speculation that the Mexican actor will be reprising his role as Cassian Andor in the Star Wars prequel.

Both Just Jared and Daily Mail captured images of Diego Luna strolling through the set of the blockbuster, which is currently in the midst of production in London. The images attained also gave fans their first clear look at Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, and it looked as though he’d been through some duress as he was covered in scratches. He also debuted his magnificent bouffant as the character, too, which should get fans instantly excited for its release next year.

There’s been speculation that Diego Luna would appear in the Han Solo movie for quite some time now, as the Mexican actor previously refused to deny that would be the case during his interview with MTV around the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Instead, Diego Luna insisted that he didn’t “have an answer for that,” and then repeatedly tried to change the topic of conversation any time that the question was raised.

Of course, those of you that watched Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will already know that Cassian Andor dies at the end of the film, as he and the rest of the Rogue One crew valiantly succeeded in their attempt to get the schematics of the Death Star to the rebels. But while they succeed in their quest, they were unable to escape Scarif in time, which was then destroyed by the Death Star.

While Rogue One showed us exactly how Cassian Andor dies, the Han Solo prequel is chronologically set before both Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars – Episode IV: A New Hope, which is when Harrison Ford’s Han Solo made his debut. This means that there’s still a chance that the rebel alliance captain could come into contact with the younger version of Han Solo, who is being portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich, at some point in the blockbuster. At the moment we don’t actually know too much about Cassian Andor and his past, other than the fact that he has been fighting in the rebellion since he was 6-years-old.

While Rogue One went on to become one of the highest grossing movies of 2016, and was also met with sterling reviews too, as it now has a score of 85 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, some reviewers were a little critical of Diego Luna’s performance in the film. The Washington Post believed that Diego Luna was “ill-suited to play a rakish man of adventure,” while also calling him “fey” and “soft-spoken,” while Entertainment Weekly believed that Diego Luna should have “had a little more personality, a little more Han Solo swagger,” especially in comparison to Felicity Jones’s leading work as Jyn Erso.

Thankfully for Diego Luna, he will now apparently have another opportunity to right these supposed wrongs in the Han Solo film, which has been written by the father and son writing team of Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, and is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. As well as starring Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, the film’s cast also includes Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Donald Glover, who is playing Lando Calrissian. It will be released on May 25, 2018.
