Mariah Carey recently shared a throwback photo of her ex Bryan Tanaka, but soon after, the couple was spotted getting cozy and even kissing each other. Are they officially back together?
Earlier reports suggested that Carey’s relationship with her ex-husband was the reason for her split from Tanaka. More recent rumors suggested that she could be getting back together with Cannon, or even ex-fiancé James Packer. However, the 47-year-old diva was seen out on an intimate date night with Bryan on Friday, Mail Online exclusively reported.
It’s been only a month after reports of Mariah and Bryan’s breakup surfaced but from the looks of it, both are into each other. According to the publication, the couple enjoyed a romantic evening at Beverly Hills’ Wolfgang Puck’s CUT. The 34-year-old back-up dancer was even photographed feeding Mariah dessert. Later on, the two shared a kiss.
A source shared to the publication that Mariah had set up a meeting with Bryan just to talk, but it turns out that they did more than that. They may have just rekindled their relationship. Their date comes on the heels of Mariah’s throwback photo of Tanaka, which may have been her hint that she’s not over him yet.
At the time when news of their split made rounds, a source close to Carey told People that everyone saw the breakup coming and was hoping for it. The “Bye Bye” singer was reportedly the one who called it quits. She felt she needed to focus on better things, the source continued.
TMZ was the first to break the news of Carey and Tanaka’s split. It was stated that Mariah got fed up with the choreographer’s spending habits. Tanaka was also reportedly jealous over Carey’s relationship with Nick Cannon, with whom she shares twins, and it was said that this jealousy didn’t sit well with the songwriter.
The latest sighting of Mariah and Bryan appears to prove that rumors of her reconciling with her ex are true after all — except that it’s neither with Packer nor Cannon.
Bryan and Mariah have always been close as he’s been linked with her professionally. He became Mimi’s backup dancer in 2006 as part of her “Adventures of Mimi” tour in 2006. Tanaka has been tagging along Carey’s tour engagements and other activities like cover photo shoots. A previous report stated that there was even a confrontation between Tanaka and Packer as the latter felt jealous of the dancer’s closeness with his then-fiancée.
Bryan was also there for Mariah when her engagement with Packer ended. Shortly after her split with the businessman, Mariah went on a night out in Malibu with her friends, including Bryan. The close friends first sparked relationship rumors last year on Thanksgiving weekend when they packed on an intense PDA in Hawaii. There, Tanaka and Carey were photographed with their passionate kiss.
The relationship blossomed even more, and Bryan and Mariah continued to be seen out on dates. He even starred in her reality series Mariah’s World, where their love story unfolded. Despite being seen together in public, Mariah never explicitly confirmed what her relationship with Bryan was, at least until February. In an interview with the Associated Press, Mariah dropped the word “boyfriend” when asked about Tanaka.
“I’m just going to be like ‘I really don’t talk about my personal life.’ Because that’s what I used to do and it really worked for a minute, back, a while ago. I just don’t feel comfortable talking about my personal life. … Me and my boyfriend don’t want to do that.”
Even with their intense PDA on social media and in public, some people were not convinced that Mariah and Bryan are an item. Nick Cannon was one of the people who thinks their relationship is a fake.
“First of all, I think the whole reality show is fake,” Cannon told Howard Stern. “I’m a producer, so you can’t have a well-lit private conversation. Like, that s— doesn’t happen,” he explained. “I don’t buy none of that s—.”
