Cara Delevingne Wants To Direct, Just Like Her New Role Model

When Cara Delevingne first began chasing her dreams of acting, forsaking a lucrative modeling career in the process, she cited Charlize Theron as her inspiration. At the time, Delevingne said she admired the way Theron had used her modeling career to launch an acting career and it wasn’t long before Cara followed suit. Now, with hits like Paper Towns and Suicide Squad under her belt, Ms. Delevingne is already looking to the next unchecked box on her bucket list: directing. As was the case with acting, the former model has a role model in this new endeavor as well and fans might be surprised to learn that Cara’s newest inspiration is none other than Angelina Jolie.

Cara Pushes for Nude Partying at Cannes

Cara Delevingne is currently filming the drama Life in a Year, but, as WWD reports, she took a break from her shooting schedule to attend this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Delevingne wasn’t at Cannes just for recreation. Cara partnered with Magnum Ice Cream and Jeremy Scott to create a very short film (45 seconds), entitled Unleash Your Wild Side, the model turned actress was there to promote the film.

Of course that’s not to say Ms. Delevingne wasn’t all about the business of the day. She shared that she was also looking forward to attending the Magnum party later that evening. Cara added that she would be going topless.

“I am freeing my nipples tonight,” Cara said with a sly smile. “Will you join me? If you all come naked, we can be naked together.”

Getting deeper into the discussion about filmmaking, Cara revealed that she has aspirations of directing one day, according to Vanity Fair. She said that her time on the set of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets gave her a deeper appreciation for filmmaking. Watching director Luc Besson gave Delevingne a hunger for pursuing the director’s chair as the next step in her career.

For her first film, Delevingne says she would like to adapt her own novel, Mirror, Mirror, which she describes as a coming of age tale for a group of 16-year-olds.

Cara adds that there are other ideas floating around in her head as well, all having to do with female driven plots. She describes a career of directing women in film, working with other women filmmakers, and drawing stories from female writers.

“I want to get more women’s voices, more women’s stories out there…There are a lot of female directors I look up to so it would be cool to work with them,” Cara says.

Detailing an ambitious adventure of creating dozens of female driven films, the next logical question for Delevingne has to do with which women she’d like to work alongside.

“Angelina Jolie is incredible,” she gushed. “She is one of my biggest inspirations. She was one of the people that I want to do something with.”

Ms. Delevingne also cited Andrea Arnold (American Honey) and Kathryn Bigelow as two more women with whom she would most like to work.

Before fans get excited about a collaboration between Jolie and Delevingne, Cara reveals that there’s just one problem. She’s never actually met Angelina Jolie.

“We’ve had a funny back and forth through the people we know in common,” says Ms. Delevingne. “But I would love to meet her.”

Cara commented that she’s saddened by the lack of female directors in Hollywood, but added that she hopes to change that in the future.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, starring Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, and Clive Owen, opens in theaters on July 21.

Life in a Year is scheduled for a 2018 release.
