Christina Aguilera Is Not Joining ‘American Idol’ After ‘The Voice’ Exit [Debunked]

Could Christina Aguilera be leaving The Voice for good in lieu of a position on the new American Idol reboot? According to a new report, the answer to that question is “No.”

Earlier this week, after the announcement of Katy Perry’s addition to the show, rumors began swirling in regard to Christina Aguilera’s potential position on the ABC series. However, a short time later, the rumor was shot down by Gossip Cop.

On May 16, Hollywood Life claimed ABC was getting revenge on NBC, who recent nabbed American Idol alums Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson for upcoming seasons of The Voice, by taking their former judge, Christina Aguilera, and casting her on their American Idol reboot.

“ABC is ready to make a serious offer to steal Christina from The Voice,” an insider revealed to Hollywood Life. “They are looking to pay Christina a lot and sell the fact to her that The Voice has forgotten about her. Idol is very much ready to make the move and hopes Christina bites.”

As fans may recall, Christina Aguilera used to be featured in an alternating coaching role on The Voice. However, in recent seasons, her role has seemingly been taken by several other female coaches, including Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys, and Miley Cyrus.

After starring on The Voice Season 10, Christina Aguilera was replaced by Keys and Cyrus during Season 11, and during Season 12, the female positions were taken by Stefani and Keys. Now, as the singing competition prepares for its 13th season, fans are looking forward to Cyrus’ return and Hudson’s addition.

While Christina Aguilera’s role on The Voice may have reached its end, there is no reason to believe that she would ever consider a role on American Idol.

In response to Hollywood Life’s report, Gossip Cop spoke with sources close to the production of both American Idol and The Voice, and no one could confirm that Christina Aguilera is in talks to leave The Voice for Idol.

“Don’t think there’s any truth to that,” one insider explained.

Around this time last year, as The Voice Season 10 came to a close, Christina Aguilera faced rumors of being fired from the NBC series due to a feud with her co-stars, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.

“It seems a little strange after all of the drama Christina Aguilera created just to come back to The Voice, she would leave on her own accord after one season,” Celeb Dirty Laundry wrote last March (via Gossip Cop).

“General consensus among Voice fans is that [Christina Aguilera] was fired because of her constant problems with Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, or ‘pushed out’ by veteran star Shelton,” the outlet continued.

“Another possibility is that Christina Aguilera gave [the powers that be] at the show an ultimatum, either Gwen goes or she goes. They decided to keep Gwen on as an advisor for Blake Shelton’s team, so Christina Aguilera made good on her promise and walked,” they added.

In response to the report, a source confirmed to Gossip Cop at the time that Christina Aguilera “always takes a season off, and next season is no different.”

Since the conclusion of The Voice Season 10, Christina Aguilera has stayed silent in regard to her possible return to the series, as has the network. That said, NBC is known for regularly bringing past coaches back to the show, so a future Aguilera comeback doesn’t seem completely out of the question.
