Beyonce and Jay Z net worth first hip hop couple worth over billion dollars

Beyonce And Jay Z Net Worth: The Carters Become Hip-Hop’s First Billionaire Couple

The power couple of Beyonce and Jay Z have now seen their combined net worth pass the $1 billion, making them the first hip-hop couple to achieve the feat. Jay Z, real name Shawn Carter, has the bulk of that amount, but Beyonce is also holding her own in terms of her share of the earnings. She’s also gaining ground on several female icons in the pop music genre with her wealth. Together, she and her husband have surpassed the staggering number, while there are currently guesses being made whether Jay Z will be the first of three hip-hop artists to officially pass the $1 billion mark on his own.

As reported by Forbes earlier today, the combined net worth of the duo is $1.16 billion and counting. Jay-Z’s share of that amount is $810 million, while Beyonce’s is $350 million. Right now, Jay is listed behind only Diddy ($820 million) when it comes to hip-hop artists who are the top earners in the genre. He’s just above Dr. Dre who checks in with $740 million, leaving speculations wide open as to which of these three hip-hop moguls will be able to reach that billion mark first. It’s already being said that if Jay-Z sold off his stake in his streaming music service Tidal, he could probably eclipse that number.

So where does Jay’s wealth come from? There are the obvious music royalties and sales, as well as his Roc Nation entertainment company. He’s also got a stake in Armand de Brigand champagne, a recent $200 million deal with touring company Live Nation, and the aforementioned Tidal music. It’s noted that the current value of the streaming music platform is about $600 million, which is more than 10 times the amount Jay originally bought it for two years ago. Once Sprint bought into the platform for $200 million it helped Jay to pass Dr. Dre on the top five list and check in just $10 million under the top earner, Diddy.

As for Beyonce Knowles, the R&B diva behind the hit album Lemonade, she ranks at No. 46 on Forbes’ America’s Richest Self-Made Women list. Her $350 million net worth ranks her just a few spots behind longtime pop stars Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion, with Madonna’s No. 32 spot ($580 million) not inconceivable for the hip-hop queen. Beyonce’s money comes not only from her music sales but also her “Formation World Tour” in 2016 which grossed a quarter of a billion on its own. Beyonce also invested into the Tidal music service, and according to a report from VH1, her Parkwood Entertainment company is involved in everything from filmmaking to fashion to managing artists.

In terms of their music catalogs, Beyonce has released six studio albums with 2003’s Dangerously in Love, her debut, and 2016’s Lemonade her most recent. Carter has released a dozen solo studio albums starting with 1996’s Reasonable Doubt and releasing his most recent, Magna Carta Holy Grail, in 2013. In addition, Jay has participated in four collaborative albums with artists such as R Kelly, Linkin Park, and Kanye West. The duo of Jay Z and Beyonce have also teamed up for several songs together including “Bonnie & Clyde” and “Crazy In Love.”

Beyonce and Jay Z have been married since 2008 and seem to be going strong as they now approach a decade as a married couple. The duo already has one child, daughter Blue Ivy, and are now preparing for the arrival of twins. Most likely, the entire Carter family will surpass $1 billion and then some. In the words of a well-known Notorious B.I.G. song, it seems that “Sky Is the Limit” for this hip-hop power couple and their offspring.
