Song Joong Ki Reportedly Inks New Deal And It Is Not For New Korean Drama

Song Joong Ki has reportedly bought a new house for $8.9 million. The Korean actor already owns a villa in Seoul, which, according to reports, is worth $2.2 million.

Although Song Joong Ki bought the new house in January, the news about it has surfaced just now. The Korea Herald reported that the Descendants of the Sun star’s two-story house with a basement is in the Itaewon area of Seoul. Moreover, according to the document obtained by the publication, the house, which has a total floor area of 371.7 square meters, is built on a land of 602 square meters.

The actor’s agency Blossom Entertainment, however, has refused to deny or confirm reports about his new house, saying that they knew nothing about his real estate purchases, according to Soompi.

“Personal real estate is something that Song Joong Ki will take care of on his own. The agency knows nothing regarding whether or not he’s made real estate purchases.”

There are no reports of the actor moving into any of the properties he has recently purchased. He reportedly lives with his parents in Seocho Dong in southern Seoul.

One of the highest-paid actors in South Korea, Song Joong Ki enjoys huge popularity not only in his home country but also in China and other Southeast Asian countries. The actor has starred in some of the highest-rated Korean dramas, including Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010), Innocent Man (2012), and Descendants of the Sun (2016). He also appeared as a regular cast member on variety program Running Man from 2010 to 2013.

It is Song Joong Ki’s portrayal of Yoo Shi Jin, the captain of a special task force, on Descendants of the Sun that has propelled him into the stratosphere of superstardom. The drama was his come back project after his discharge from the two-year mandatory military service.

Even before the 16-episode, pre-produced drama wrapped up on April 14, 2016, he had become one of the most sought-after celebrities for brand endorsements in South Korea and China. Last year, he sold almost everything under the sun, including ice-cream, pizza, airlines, rice cooker, cosmetics, toothpaste, healthcare product, household products, beer, and more. He reportedly shot almost 30 commercials in China.

In April 2016, the Korea Times reported that the advertisers were eager to hire Song Joong Ki despite his high fees. It quoted a company’s official as saying that the actor helped businesses raise their brand recognition and improve sales.

“It’s still worth paying Song a hefty sum for businesses armed with ample cash. He will definitely help them raise their brand recognition and bolster sales.”

The official had also predicted that the public interest in actor would continue in the foreseeable future. The prediction seems to have come true as Song Joon Ki’s popularity has not fizzled out despite his absence from both the small screen and big screen.

In December, South Korean consumers of all ages picked Song Joong Ki as their most favorite celebrity to endorse a product in 2016. And earlier this year, the 31-year-old secured the No. 2 spot on the Forbes Korea’s Power Celebrities of 2017.

Song Joong Ki has not signed any new drama. He, however, is set to return to television on Friday, May 19. He will make a special guest appearance in Episode 9 of JTBC’s drama Man to Man, which stars Park Hae Jin and Park Sun Woong.

The actor will be next seen in the movie Battleship Island, which is scheduled to release in July. Song Joong Ki is playing Park Moo Yeon, an independence fighter. He has previously starred in movies such as A Werewolf Boy, The Grand Heist — both the movies released in 2012 — and more.
