Selena Gomez is allegedly planning a surprise performance of her new single “Bad Liar” at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards on May 22.
According to reports, after teasing her new single across social media over the past few days, Gomez is allegedly planning to debut the new song at the big award show this weekend.
“Selena is super excited about debuting new music,” a source told Hollywood Life of Gomez’s possible big comeback. “She can’t wait to drop a single from her new album this week to give her fans a taste of what else is on the way.”
The outlet’s Selena source then went on to allege that Gomez “has been practicing this week” and even “hopes to perform [‘Bad Liar’] live at the Billboard Music Awards” for the very first time on May 22.
As for when fans can expect Gomez’s much-anticipated new album amid the debut performance rumors, the insider alleged that Selena is hoping to drop the rest of her new music in a few months’ time, likely this August.
“After she releases her single this week, she hopes the remainder of her album will be available in August,” claimed the site.
Selena teased her new single “Bad Liar” with a slew of photos posted to her Instagram account over the past few days, confirming the song would drop on May 18 – just four days before the Billboard Music Awards is set to take place.
Gomez then continued to tease lyrics from the song on her social media page, posting pictures of the words, “Trying not to think about you,” “Trying to play it coy,” and “Trying to protect myself” written across mirrors in lipstick.
While Selena hasn’t commented on rumors she could be gearing up for a surprise appearance and performance of her new single “Bad Liar” at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, that hasn’t stopped Gomez’s fans from getting pretty excited about the star potentially attending the show to debut her song on social media.
“Can Selena Gomez perform ‘Bad Liar’ at the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday thanks,” Gomez fan @messkarla tweeted of the possibility of a surprise appearance and performance.
Selena follower @julietjabonill5 tweeted to the music organization, “We want Selena… please.”
“We want Selena to perform,” @lovinmaries added amid the surprise “Bad Liar” performance speculation.
Others suggested that Gomez could potentially announce her possible appearance later this week ahead of the show.
“Selena could announce her performance at the Billboard Awards next Thursday!” @SGINFO99 suggested.
Although Selena’s name hasn’t been on any official attendees list, Gomez is nominated for Top Social Artist, which means there’s a good chance she could at least attend the show to accept the award should she win.
Selena’s boyfriend, The Weeknd, also has a number of nominations at the ceremony, including the prestigious Top Artist and Billboard Achievement Award, which means the couple could also be planning to walk the red carpet together after making their debut at the 2017 Met Gala earlier this month.
Gomez has also notably surprised her fans with an unannounced appearance at award shows in the past, most recently attending the 2016 American Music Awards in November to deliver an emotional speech despite the fact that she wasn’t previously confirmed to attend.
Selena walked the red carpet at the show and then headed on stage to accept her award for Favorite Female Artist — Pop/Rock, making her comeback after taking some time away from the spotlight, as Us Weekly reported that she headed to rehab last year.
Gomez emotionally told fans that she was “broken inside” while accepting the award, according to Time. The singer stated that while on stage, she “kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”
“All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love,” Selena continued during her surprise appearance at the awards show last year. “If you are broken you do not have to stay broken.”
