Monty Looks Ahead To Ryder Cup In Celtic Manor

Colin Montgomerie

London, England (AHN) – Colin Montgomerie is looking forward as the European side aims to regain the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in 2010 especially with an in-form Tiger Woods leading the American contingent.

Though not an easy task, the European skipper reportedly indicated that a victory at Celtic Manor would be “a better win” with presence of Woods.

In the just concluded Presidents Cup, Woods displayed ominous form, posting a perfect five-from-five points as the U.S. dumped an International team 19.5 -14.5 in San Francisco.

The winner of 14 Majors missed the United State’s comprehensive 2008 Ryder Cup victory in Kentucky following a knee surgery.

According to Montgomerie, Woods’ presence in the event would make it “tougher” job for Europe.

Taking on Tiger also motivates his side to play its best against the current world No. 1 and also the 11 other players in that squad.

What is interesting to note is that the Americans have yet to hoist the Ryder Cup on British or Irish soil for 16 years.

Montgomerie, owner of a record eight Order of Merit titles, also reportedly indicated that the upcoming European Ryder Cup team will be adopting a “back-to-basics” policy.

The seriousness of Montgomerie’s tone in Europe’s quest to recapture the Ryder Cup is an apparent veiled criticism of Nick Faldo’s captaincy.

Montgomerie will also encourage his prospective team to familiarize itself with the Celtic Manor, which has been redone, by playing in the Wales Open.
