And the winners of the North American Wife-Carrying Championships are…


Dave and Lacey Castro of Lewiston, Maine took home the crown in the 10th annual North American Wife Carrying Championships on Saturday.

The North American Wife Carrying Championships, where couples enter and the husband carry’s his wife over an obstacle course that includes a muddy water hazard and log obstacles, was held at Sunday River ski resort in Newry. 41 couples entered the event and battled it out on a 278 yard course. The Castros came in first place with a time of 54.45 seconds.

The couple took home the crown, plus a first prize of the wife’s weight in beer. Lacey Castro weighed in at a petite 97 pounds at the time of the competition. They also won Lacey’s weight multiplied in cash, which came out to $485.
