Romney Motorcade Arrest: Heckler Busted For Charging At Vehicle Carrying Presidential Nominee

The Secret Service claims that a man was arrested after he charged and heckled Mitt Romney’s motorcade during the former presidential candidate’s trip to Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

The man, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, allegedly charged Romney’s motorcade just before it was to arrive at a security checkpoint not far from the White House.

The man is said to have screamed into an open window of a SUV that Romney was in several times before being taken away.

The Washington Postreports:

“The incident occurred early in the afternoon at a White House checkpoint at 15th and E Streets NW. Romney, who lost the presidential election, was visiting President Obama for lunch.”

The man reportedly was combative with a “uniformed Secret Service agent” who was interviewing him. After the outburst, the man was eventually arrested.

A video from CNN, which can be seen below, showed much of the ordeal, which backs up the Secret Service’s story. In the video, the man can be seen running up to Romney’s motorcade shouting, “Mitt! Mitt!” followed by a few inaudible words.

When asked if the man specifically targeted Romney for the heckling, the Secret Service refused to go into any further detail.

Despite the random act of heckling, Romney’s motorcade eventually made it safely to the White House, where Romney and President Obama exchanged words over a lunch of white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad.

“Governor Romney congratulated the president for the success of his campaign and wished him well over the coming four years,” the White House said of Romney’s visit. “The focus of their discussion was on America’s leadership in the world and the importance of maintaining that leadership position in the future.”
