Twinkies May Rise Again: Hostess Claims 110 Potential Buyers Exist

Twinkie lovers may very well have another chance to munch on the sweet (and calorie-filled) goodness of Hostess snack cakes. The company announced on Thursday that it is in talks with 110 potential buyers for the popular brand. In addition to Twinkies, Hostess also made Ho Hos, CupCakes, and Ding Dongs — all lunchbox favorites for decades.

Hostess suitors reportedly include at least five national retailers, according to statements made by a company financial adviser in bankruptcy court. Although the future of Twinkies and Ho Hos seems secured, the new owner will still have to contend with the same union demands which hampered the longevity of Hostess Brands Inc. in the first place.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, some workers were willing to cross the picket line and get back to work to avoid a company-wide shut down but allegedly faced fines from the union if they took such action. The closure of Hostess resulted in the loss of approximately 18,000 jobs, the Los Angeles Times reports. The company noted that about 3,200 workers and 237 corporate employees will be needed during the liquidation process.

Peralla Weinbery Partners representative Joshua Scherer had this to say about the future of the snack cake brand:

“Not only are these buyers serous, but they are expecting to spend substantial sums. The longer these brands are off the shelves, the less they’re going to be valued.”

Hostess Brands Inc. is currently before the US Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York in White Plains, the Boston Globe reports. The company is seeking approval to give the top executives bonuses totaling $1.8 million to continue working through the wind-down plan. Hostess maintains that the incentive pay is needed to keep the 19 high-level managers and corporate officers in place to complete the liquidation process of the course of the next year.
