Mark Leaves Park: Teixeira Homer In 11th Propels Yanks Past Twins

Bronx, NY (AHN) – Mark Teixeira’s solo shot in the 11th inning lifted the New York Yankees to a thrilling 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins Friday in game two of the ALDS.

The Yanks lead the series 2-0.

Alex Rodriguez blasted a two-run homer in the ninth inning, tying the Yankees with the Twins 3-3. Mark Teixeira singled before A-Rod’s blast off Joe Nathan.

Nick Punto and Denard Span came through with RBI singles in the eighth inning, giving the Minnesota Twins a 3-1 lead .

The latter hit came off usual lights-out closer Mariano Rivera.

Alex Rodriguez’ RBI single scored Derek Jeter, lifting the Yankees into a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth.

Derek Jeter clubbed a ground-rule double and scored on A-Rod’s third RBI of the series.

Brendan Harris crushed an RBI triple in the top of the sixth inning, giving the Twins a 1-0 lead.

Delmon Young, who drew a walk, scored on Harris’ hit.

The Twins pinch-hitting has been superb this season, batting .308.

Minnesota Twins starter Nick Blackburn was terrific, allowing just three hits through 5 2-3 innings before being lifted.

A.J. Burnett allowed just three hits for the Yanks through five frames, but also pitched out of trouble.

He walked five batters into the sixth inning and hit Delmon Young with a pitch.

Robinson Cano had the lone Yanks hit through five with a single.

Matt Tobert and Milt Cuddyer singled for the Twins early on.
