American Version Of ‘Downton Abbey’ Coming To NBC

Downton Abbey is coming to America. Julian Fellowes, the creator of the hit ITV show, is writing an American period drama called The Gilded Age for NBC.

According to the Telegraph The Gilded Age will follow the lives of wealthy Americans during the 19th century in New York.

NBC says that The Gilded Age will be “an epic tale of the princes of the American Renaissance and the vast fortunes made – and spent – in late 19th century New York.”

Fellowes, who introduced an American character to the BBC show this season, said that he’s fascinated with the period and was thrilled to be working on an American drama.

Fellowes said:

“This was a vivid time with dizzying, brilliant ascents and calamitous falls; of record-breaking ostentation and savage rivalry; a time when money was king.”

NBC added:

“We at the network are all so thrilled to be working with the immensely talented Julian Fellowes, who is universally admired for his critically and commercially appealing productions.”

Downton Abbey was recently renewed for its fourth season. The show, which has won Golden Globe and Emmy awards, will start production this February.

Laura Mackie, director of drama at ITV, said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome back a drama series that has become a much anticipated part of all our lives every autumn and achieved success around the globe.”
