UCLA Forward Keefe Out 4-6 Weeks With Shoulder Injury

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) – UCLA forward James Keefe, one of three seniors returning for the 2009-10 campaign, will miss action for at least four weeks as he deals with shoulder problem.
The MRI on the 22-year-old Keefe came back negative, but joint instability on the left shoulder will require rehabilitation for four to six weeks.
With the projected return, Keefe could be ready and fit for the Bruins’ season opener against Cal State Fullerton on Nov. 16 at Pauley Pavilion.
In a statement, Bruins head coach Ben Howland said: “We are very relieved that the injury isn’t going to be a long-term one.”
“Everything looks to be intact and we are very happy for him and for the team.”
Last season, Keefe sacrificed the possibility of redshirting to help guide the Bruins to its third straight Pac-10 regular season title en route to a third consecutive Final Four appearance.
Keefe underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in the same shoulder two summers ago. That injury sidelined him for the first 12 contests of the 2007-08 season.
Keefe averaged 3.0 points and 3.4 rebounds last season for the Bruins.
