Sean Taylor Remembered On Five-Year Anniversary Of His Murder

Sean Taylor was an up-and-coming star in the NFL who had just turned a corner in his life when he was cut down five years ago, and now athletes and sports experts alike are looking back at the life of the Washington Redskins player.

Taylor was shot in 2007 as he slept in his bedroom when two intruders entered and were surprised to find him at home. Their trial was delayed earlier this year.

Though he has been gone for five years now, Sean Taylor is still remembered fondly around the NFL, his alma mater at the University of Miami and PeeWee programs in South Florida that he supported, the Washington Post noted. The Redskins invited Taylor’s father to join the team last month in a pregame huddle before a game against the Carolina Panthers. Taylor was also honored as one of the 80 greatest Redskins of all time, an honor accepted by Taylor’s father Pedro and 6-year-old daughter Jackie

“Man, Sean Taylor is really legendary,” Miami senior cornerback Brandon McGee told the Sun-Sentinel. “A lot of people, when they think UM safeties, he’s the first thing that comes to mind. It’s just honor and respect for those who paved the way.”

Known on the field as a hard-hitting safety, Sean Taylor had racked up impressive numbers in just a little more than three seasons in the NFL. The Redskins star had 299 tackles and 12 interceptions in 55 games played, and though it was early in his career the pace would have made him a Hall of Fame player by the time he retired.
