When Jared Leto isn’t the front man in 30 Seconds To Mars, he’s an actor that’s known to take big risks in the industry for a role. Although his last big physical change playing John Lennon’s killer in Chapter 27 was five years ago, Leto is currently up for the challenge again. This time, he’s decided to lose weight, instead of gaining it to play a transsexual named Rayon for Dallas Buyers Club.
Not only did Jared Leto commit to the role of Rayon, who is riddled with AIDS, but he also decided to shave his eyebrows off, which turned a few heads last night at the Gotham Independent Film Awards. However, according to the actor, who caught up with ET last night at the ceremony, his transformation has been life changing:
“It’s a lot of work to be a pretty little girl. I have a newfound respect for women in general. I waxed my entire body, including my eyebrows. I’ve lost a lot of weight because I’m playing a young person with AIDS. It’s been challenging but really inspiring too.”
Leto continues, describing why he took on the role in the middle of his hiatus from acting:
“I haven’t made a movie in 5 years. I thought it was a beautifully written script [and] a wonderful character, who I just fell in love with. I figured if I was going to come back and act again, this was the one to do it.”
The film, Dallas Buyers Club, where you can catch Jared Leto’s stunning appearance is said to hit theaters next year.
