Barbara Streisand Earns Ninth #1 Album On Billboard

Miami, FL (CNS) – Barbara Streisand beat out current pop music heavyweights Paramore and Mariah Carey for her ninth #1 album on the Billboard charts. “Love Is the Answer” became Streisand’s first number one album since 1997′s “Higher Ground,” making her the only artist in America to have a #1 album in each of the last five decades. The album, which features production by Diana Krall, sold 180,000 copies in its first week.
Rockers Paramore sold an impressive 175,000 copies of their new album, “Brand New Eyes,” featuring the hit first single “Ignorance.” The album debuts at #2, making it their highest peak on Billboard and their first time ever in the top 10.
Mariah Carey, no stranger to the top 10, debuts at #3 with her latest album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.” The new album, which features the hit “Obsessed” and her cover of Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is,” sold 168,000 copies and became her 11th top 3 album.
Breaking Benjamin debut at #4 with “Dear Agony,” their fourth studio album. Selling 134,000 copies, it’s also the band’s second top 5 album on the chart. Alice In Chains debut at #5 with “Black Gives Way to Blue,” their first studio album in nearly fourteen years, selling 126,000 copies.
The first of only two returning entries in the top 10 is Jay-Z with “The Blueprint 3,” selling 89,000 copies in its fourth week for the #6 spot. Madonna debuts at #7 with “Celebration,” her fourth top 10 hits compilation. The album, which sold 72,000 copies in its first week, features hits from “Holiday” to “4 Minutes,” plus new songs “Celebration” and “Revolver” with rapper Lil Wayne.
Country singer Miranda Lambert debuts at #8 with “Revolution,” selling 66,000 copies and becoming the #1 top country album this week. Disney star Selena Gomez releases her debut album as Selena Gomez & the Scene, selling 66,000 copies of “Kiss & Tell” at #9. Closing out the top 10 are Pearl Jam, who drop from #1 to #10 with their latest studio album, “Backspacer.”
