Bognor Regis, West Sussex, England — A mother left her young daughter tied to “baby reins” outside a betting shop while she went in to place a bet.
The scene was captured by office workers who were shocked to see the little girl outside the shop tied up “like a dog.”
The girl, who is around 4 years old, was left by herself for about three minutes outside Ladbrokes, a British-based gaming company. She struggled to free herself before her mother finally came out.
The mother fed the reins underneath the door and went into the shop. The girl would not be allowed inside because she was under 18.
When she came out, she untied the girl and left like nothing had happened.
An insurance company worker watching from across the street said, “She’s like a dog, oh my god, she’s like a dog!”
Ollie Brough told MailOnline:
“I noticed the mother bending down to the bottom of the door with a cord out of the corner of my eye. At first I thought the child was just caught, but then she went in and left her and I couldn’t believe it. I wanted to see how long she would leave her and it was about two or three minutes.”
The 30-year-old added:
“By then, everyone in the office was watching and they were just as shocked as I was. We took pictures and a video and in the clip you can just about see the harness on the little girl. The other end is attached to the mother’s wrist who looped the slack line under the door and closed it!”
Brough finished, “Leaving the poor girl harnessed outside, the little girl got bored and started tugging at the loose line but to avail, it’s the worst parenting I think I have ever seen!”
