Lil Wayne: Tha Carter V Is My Last Album

After 19 years in the rap game, Lil Wayne has announced that he is planning to release one more album, Tha Carter V, before retiring.

The rapper’s tenth solo album, I Am Not A Human Being II, is still set to be released February 19, but there is no word on when he’ll be releasing his last album. Lil Wayne said the makeup of Human Being II is “like a Carter V,” but said he wouldn’t rename it because “I know y’all want me around for a little bit, and Carter V is my last album.”

“Man, I’ve been rappin’ since I was 8 years old. I’m 30 now, man. That’s a long time, man,” he said.

Lil Wayne released his first solo album, Tha Block Is Hot, in 1999. Prior to that, he was part of the groups Hot Boys and the B.G.’z. Altogether, “Tunechi” has released nine solo albums, four Hot Boys albums, a collaborative album with Birdman (Like Father, Like Son), a YMCMB collaboration (We Are Young Money), and a number of mixtapes.

Lil Wayne signed his first contract at 11, and went platinum at 14.

“Thank God I haven’t put out an album that hasn’t went platinum,” he said. “To just keep it goin’ like that, I think not only am I being greedy, I’m fooling myself to think that it will continue to be that great.”

Lil Wayne said he would like to do something sports-related after retiring.

“I’d be a skater/sports analyst,” he said. “My day job will probably be sports analyst and I’ll skate all night instead of being in the studio all night.”

Wayne has built several skate parks, including one in his hometown of New Orleans. He has also created a skate-inspired clothing line called TRUKFIT.

“Skating is a world, it’s a world… it’s a life, it’s a world, it’s, it’s own and I didn’t know that,” he said. “I thought it was four wheels and piece of wood. I didn’t know that. Now I know it’s a world and I just wanna be vital in that world.”
