Police Officer Quits After Threatening To Assassinate Obama

Jacksonville, FL – A Jacksonville police officer has quit after admitting he told colleagues that he would volunteer to assassinate President Obama. According to USA Today, the U.S. Secret Service said last week that they had investigated the threatening statements. This is not the first time the First Family has been threatened by law enforcement. Back during the summer Michelle Obama was threatened by another police officer.

Jacksonville police officer Sam Koivisto told the Florida Times-Union on Wednesday that his comments had been blown out of proportion. Koivisto had planned to retire in five months anyway, but he is moving up the date of his departure because it is “best for everybody.”

The 57-year-old police officer retired earlier this month while facing an internal investigation of his comments made after the election. Koivisto acknowledged he had told colleagues after the election that “if an order was given to kill Obama or something, then I wouldn’t mind being the guy.”

When questioned by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office integrity unit, he said he also didn’t care if a nuclear bomb was detonated in the northeastern United States because the region is primarily populated by Democratic Obama supporters. He told the investigators his comments were hyperbole and not actual threats.

The 26-year veteran of the police force added that he told co-workers that his threatening comments about assassinating Obama were not meant to be taken seriously. “That’s not saying I’m going to do it or would do it, and that’s never going to happen.”

These comments come at a time when political tensions are extremely high. Even families are cancelling their Thanksgiving Day plans because they fear that a family blowout will occur at the dinner table. What do you think about people making “jokes” like this about their political opposites?
