Osama Bin Laden Burial Received Proper Islamic Treatment

Despite his complete lack of respect for human life, the Osama Bin Laden burial at sea followed traditional Islamic procedures according to recently revealed military e-mails. The documents were shared among “leadership” members aboard the Navy carrier where the burial took place.

A Navy commander aboard the USS Carl Vinson asked a public affairs officer if “any sailors watched the burial.”

After reviewing the question, the public affairs officer responded:

“Only a small group of the leadership was informed — less than a dozen … Burial No Sailors Watched.”

The redacted e-mails from the Department of Defense were obtained via a Freedom of Information lawsuit filed by the watchdog group Judicial Watch.

The communications then described in detail the Islamic burial procedures that were carried out. The officers spoke of the burial in exacting terms, noting that very few officers aboard the vessel knew of the burial.

In one e-mail, an officer wrote:

“Traditional procedures for Islamic burial was followed. The deceased’s body was washed (ablution) then placed in a white sheet. The body was placed in a weighted bag. a military officer read prepared religious remarks, which were translated into Arabic by a native speaker. After the words were complete, the body was placed on a prepared flat board, tipped up, whereupon the deceased’s body slid into the sea.”

The detailed email was sent on May 2, 2011 to former Joint Chiefs Chairman Mike Mullen.

Officers likely chose to provide a proper Osama Bin Laden burial in order to avoid further conflicts with the general Islamic community.
