Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera invovled in a domestic squable

Last Friday night after going 0-4 and stranding four runners on base, in a game his team needed to win, Detroit Tigers first baseman decided to go out to the bar with members of the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers were in the final series against this team and needed to win two of the final three games to insure a Central Division title and a trip to the post season. After drinking to a point where his blood alcohol level was higher than .26 he went home and was then involved in a domestic squabble with his wife. There are also some reports that Tigers President and General Manger, Dave Dombrowski was the person to pick up Cabrera from the drunk tank and take him home.

As of yet the Tigers have failed to respond to this incident, and while all of these things are terrible, the simple fact that Cabrera was out drinking while his team was preparing for a Saturday game that they had to win. After all of this Cabrera went out Saturday and went 0-4 leaving six runners on base. The Tigers lost the Saturday game, again a game they needed to win, 5-1.

The simple facts here are this, Cabrera was brought to this team to drive in big run when the counted most. Since the Tigers magic number was two all they had to do was win two games and win their division. With that in mind Cabrera is at the bar drinking with the other team. Cabrera is in the second year of an eight year 152 million dollar deal. With that in mind how can anyone justify him being at the bar, when this team needs him to perform to win?

IF Miguel was at the police station early Saturday morning with a blood alcohol level of .26, why on earth did Tigers manager Jim Leyland play him in Saturday’s game? Cabrera reportedly had scratches on his face; from the fight with his wife, yet Leyland choose to ignore the situation. If the Tigers now lose the one game playoff tomorrow night, than owner Mike Illitch is going to have to consider making big changes to this team.
