Is Matt Lauer Getting Fired From The ‘Today’ Show?
Matt Lauer rumors are circulating around the internet after a new report in the National Enquirer claimed the Today show host may soon be out of a job. Ratings have dipped in recent months after alleged tensions between Lauer and Ann Curry surfaced.
A Today show insider stated during an interview with the National EnquirerLauer is facing termination from the cast. The NBC morning show host reportedly makes $21.5 million per year. Unless he has been on some major shopping sprees lately, the 54-year-old star could retire young and not be fiscally impacted by losing his spot on the Today couch. Ego and pride could likely be more of a stumbling block for Lauer, if the source claims are accurate and he will soon no longer be the face of the show.
The source reportedly feels that Matt Lauer is getting his “just desserts” after years spent allegedly feuding with Curry, Meredith Vieira, and Katie Couric, according to Radar Online. The source had this to say about the host of the struggling Today show.
“Everyone has turned against him and Matt is going to be ousted because he’s being blamed for the show’s collapse. Adding a fresh new guy like Willie [Geist] to the mix is just what Al [Roker] feels Today needs to help pull the show out of the ratings doldrums and compete with GMA.”
Good Morning America recently replaced Today as the top breakfast time news show. The supposed show insider also maintains that executives at NBC are taking “big steps” to fix the show’s woes, and Willie Geist may allegedly soon become the host during the 9 am hour.
