Firefighters Battling Blaze In Southern California’s San Gabriel Mountains; 3,500 Acres Burned

Wrightwood, CA (AHN) – California firefighters are battling wildfires in Southern California that burned 3,500 on Sunday and is only 10 percent contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in San Bernadino County where three homes were burned and hundreds more evacuated in the San Gabriel Mountains.
High winds compounded the problem by pushing the fire out in different directions through remote canyons and causing evacuations in the Angeles National Forest, according to reports. The blaze is near Wrightwood, which is about 70 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
About 1,000 firefighters are battling the blaze in high winds with gusts up to 45 mph.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
