Fans of Game of Thrones may have a convincing reason to see Thor: The Dark World. The film will look and feel a lot like Westeros, according to the film’s star, Chris Hemsworth.
Though Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has proven to be an unprecedented success with both critics and audience alike, many changes are ahead as Marvel pushes forward into the post-Avengers “Phase Two.” The three major entries before Avengers 2 gets rolling are Iron Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Thor: The Dark World.
We’re steadily getting more and more information about these projects, including the recent Iron Man 3 trailer, but the one thing that’s undeniably (and to some, uncomfortably) certain about “Phase Two” is that each of these films feature new directing talents.
Shane Black takes over for Jon Favreau on Iron Man 3, Anthony and Joseph Russo step-in on Captain America for Joe Johnston, and Alan Taylor subs for Kenneth Branagh for Thor: The Dark World.
Though this might trouble some, actor Chris Hemsworth, who played the Marvel Comics character Thor in the film of the same name and Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, reassures us that Thor: The Dark World will be awesome, and for proof, we need look no further than HBO’s successful Game of Thrones.
Hemsworth said of the film:
“The look of the film is a lot bigger than what we did even previously. The first one worked and people loved it, but this is with a different director and just has a totally different feel. There’s a definite Game of Thrones vibe thanks to [director] Alan [Taylor].”
In case you’re not putting the two together yet, Taylor has directed six episodes of Thrones.
Furthermore, Hemsworth told MTV that Thor: The Dark World will answer the biggest question about Thor’s character from TheAvengers: Why didn’t he pop in to say hello to Natalie Portman’s Jane?
“For Thor and Jane, there are some unanswered questions now, since obviously he didn’t stop in and catch up with her in Avengers. Thor might have some explaining to do in this one.”
We look forward to it. Are you excited for Thor: The Dark World? Which Marvel “Phase Two” film are you looking forward to most?
