Upton, Rays Ride Cycle; Power Past Yankees

St. Petersburg, FL (AHN) – B. J. Upton made history as the first player in Tampa Bay Rays franchise history to hit for the cycle in a 13-4 demolishing of the New York Yankees Friday night.
CC Sabathia (19-8) set out to notch his 20th win, but instead allowed nine runs in 2 2-3 innings pitched for his first time loss in over two months.
Upton hit a three-run triple in the first and then doubled in the third, both versus Sabathia.
He then crushed a two-run home run off of Jonathan Albaladejo in the fourth inning, and completed the cycle in the fifth with an RBI single off of David Robertson. Upton also became the fourth player in franchise history to have five hits in a game. David Price (10-7), overshadowed by Upton’s dominant play, allowed only one run on two hits in seven innings to get the win. Price retired the last 12 batters he faced and allowed only one base runner after the second. Sabathia, who went 0-2 in four starts against Tampa this season, has a lot more work to do as the playoffs begin next week.
The Rays will be home due to their elimination from playoff contention some weeks ago.
