R. Kelly, ‘Trapped In The Closet’ Might Be Headed To Broadway

The R. Kelly peculiar musical drama Trapped in the Closet could be well on its way to the Broadway stage, according to Gawker.

During the premiere of new episodes at New York City’s Landmark Sunshine Theater, the Trapped in the Closet mastermind revealed that he had been approached to bring his hip-hop opera to Broadway.

When asked if he would star in the upcoming stage adaptation of his musical, Kelly explained that negotiations were still up in the air.

“Some of the cities, I can’t guarantee all of them, and that’s what’s being negotiated right now because it takes a lot of time to do these chapters — I’m the only one in the studio writing these chapters,” Kelly said.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, R. Kelly has been extremely busy with Trapped in the Closet as of late. IFC is preparing to air several episodes of the singer’s peculiar hip-hop opera beginning November 23. If Kelly’s recent revelation is to be believed, then the drama is likely to continue for quite some time.

“I got 85 chapters sitting in the studio, waiting for you guys,” Kelly said of the series. Given that the series is currently on episode 23, it would seem that the self-proclaimed “scientist of music” has been extremely busy.

The news that Trapped in the Closet is heading to Broadway is a bit of good news for Kelly. Over the past few months, things haven’t been sailing quite so smoothly for the veteran singer. In addition to to owing $6.2 million in back taxes, Kelly’s ex-wife is reportedly working on a new tell-all book.

The Inquisitr reports that Drea Kelly is preparing to unleash a new book that dishes on numerous aspects of the singer’s life. While she already has a title, Life Under the Red Carpet: My Life As R. Kelly’s Wife, the book has yet to be written.
