Oprah’s Favorite Things 2012 Sends Military Spouses Into A Frenzy

Oprah’s Favorite Things 2012 revived the annual tradition of the media mogul giving away all manner gifts and prizes, only this year the giving focused on military wives.

The reactions were all the same, The Huffington Post noted. The list of Oprah’s Favorite Things 2012 produced the screaming and hysterical reaction that fans have come to expect, a phenomenon that has even been spoofed on Saturday Night Live.

Even though Oprah Winfrey’s talk show is gone, she did keep her Favorite Things list for a special on OWN. This year, she chose 30 military spouses and gave them items specially chosen for them, including elliptical machines, motorized bicycles, and even Jessica Simpson shows.

Recipients of Oprah’s Favorite Things 2012 were chosen by their peers to represent military spouses. But as The Huffington Post reported, Oprah’s also did a good job showing off the crazy reactions made famous in previous installments of Oprah’s Favorite Things:

“They also represented the legacy of “Oprah’s Favorite Things” very well, giving those classic over-the-top reactions that made the specials so popular for so many years. And, it turns out, the spirit of giving is contagious. Babette Maxwell, the president of the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year Award program reported that many of the women are giving to other military spouses, as well as setting up a gift exchange based on the concept of paying it forward.”
