WWE News: Matt Hardy Issues Challenge To Raw Tag Team Champs Gallows & Anderson

The Broken Hardys are not afraid to call out tag teams throughout all major promotions in the quest to become the greatest tag team in all of space and time. While Donald Trump’s mission is to “Make America Great Again,” the team of Matt and Jeff Hardy have spent the last year making tag team wrestling as character-driven as it has been in a number of years. Even while the Hardys were in Impact Wrestling, the brothers used their creative control to go beyond the company into other promotions in the quest to win multiple tag team championships.

Perhaps the most surprising stop on their quest was Matt Hardy’s appearance on the jumbo screen after the Young Bucks retained their Ring of Honor Tag Team Championships at Final Battle against The Briscoes. This is typically viewed as a very taboo gesture, as Impact Wrestling and ROH have been vying for the number two promotion in the country ever since both companies debuted in 2002. Matt informed Nick and Matt Jackson that he and his brother are on a mission to claim those titles.

This prophecy would be fulfilled when the Hardys invaded Ring of Honor during the Manhattan Mayhem event inside the Hammerstein Ballroom. After the Young Bucks’ victory over Lio Rush and Jay White, the lights went off as the Hardys appeared to issue an impromptu challenge. After the Young Bucks accepted, Matt and Jeff defeated them to win their first ROH World Tag Team Championships.

The Hardys are not done in their conquest yet, as Matt posted on social media their desire to defeat Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson for the Raw Tag Team Championship.

“#BrotherNero & I have already DELETED the title reign of The Club’s #BucksofYouth. We see your GOLD, @LukeGallowsWWE & @KarlAndersonWWE.”

Interestingly, Hardy referenced the Bullet Club, which was when Gallows & Anderson and the Young Bucks were in the same faction during their time in New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor. Gallows & Anderson continue many signature moves of the Bullet Club, throwing up the Too Sweet sign and subtle references.

During WWE Fastlane, Gallows & Anderson were able to maintain the Raw Tag Team Championships in controversial faction, as Enzo Amore managed to put his foot on the rope which should have broken the count. Instead, the referee did not see this, as Gallows quickly pushed Enzo’s foot off the rope. Of course, this seems to be a prelude to another opportunity for Enzo & Cass, most likely at WrestleMania 33.

Ultimately, there is virtually no chance that WWE would allow the Hardys, who are champions for a rival promotion, to have the ROH titles, as well as vie for the Raw tag championship.

While it is simply fun teasing from Matt Hardy and wishful thinking from fans of the Hardys, this Expedition of Gold has certainly gained a great deal of interest in the tag team division across the country. With the combination of the Hardys and The New Day, the tag team picture has significantly increased in value over the past year.

So far, the Hardys have claimed the TNA World Tag Team Championships, ROH World Tag Team Championships, MCW Tag Team Championships, OMEGA Tag Team Championships, Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championships, The Crash Tag Team Championships, All Star Wrestling Tag Team Championships, and other titles.

One brand that has not been mentioned heavily has been NXT, as the current champions are the Authors of Pain. Although the NXT Tag Team Championships would still be an improbable objective, as it is under the WWE umbrella, a match at NXT TakeOver: Orlando between the Hardys and the Authors of Pain would generate an even stronger buzz for the event on April 1.
