WWE News: Will Seth Rollins Be Able To Compete At WrestleMania 33?

The status of Seth Rollins for WrestleMania 33 has been up in the air ever since Rollins was injured on the January 30, 2017, episode of Monday Night Raw. The injury took place when Samoa Joe attacked Seth Rollins during the final segment of Raw. Speculation as to the severity of Seth’s injury ran rampant until a report was released by CBS Sports on February 7. The CBS report stated that Seth Rollins flew down to see Dr. James Andrews and that Rollins was diagnosed with an MCL tear in his knee. Seth’s MCL tear was in the same knee that was operated on by Dr. Andrews last year. Rollins commented on how this new injury has impacted him.

“Life doesn’t always go your way, but that is no excuse to surrender. If anything, obstacles exist to help us grow and evolve. This reinjury to my surgically repaired knee is real and a lot is up in the air right now, but one thing that remains constant: my resolve.”

“This doesn’t end for me until I’ve reclaimed the throne, and for me, fighting and defeating Triple H is the only way. I will work harder than I ever have and push myself beyond what I know. This isn’t over. The only way to wear the crown is to slay the king. I know what must be done and there’s nothing that can stop me.”

As soon as Seth’s diagnosis was confirmed, fans immediately began to wonder if Rollins would be able to recover in time to compete at WrestleMania 33. From the time of his injury on January 30 to the date of WrestleMania 33 on April 2, a total of 62 days would have elapsed. One day shy of nine full weeks.

In order to answer the question about whether Seth Rollins will be able to wrestle at WresteMania 33, Rollins appeared on the February 27 episode of Monday Night Raw in order to address his fans. An article by the Inquisitr covered the story.

During the Rollins segment on Raw, Rollins stated that he would not be cleared in time for WrestleMania 33 which brought Triple H to the ring. Triple H went to cut a promo in which he said that this was for the best for Seth Rollins and that his best days are behind him. It soon became apparent that Rollins saying he would not be at WrestleMania 33 was just for storyline purposes because his attitude quickly changed as he stated that he would appear at WrestleMania 33.

Understanding The Ligaments Of The Knee

According to WebMD, the knee consists of four main ligaments. These ligaments are the ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament), the PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament), the LCL (Lateral Collateral Ligament), and the MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament). Each ligament has a specific function and when working together, the knee functions as it is supposed to.

  • The ACL is the ligament most susceptible to being injured or torn. The ligament is connected from the femur to the tibia.
  • The PCL is attached in the same area as the ACL. As opposed to the ACL, it is difficult to injure. The most common way for the PCL to be injured is from severe trauma such as a car accident.
  • The LCL’s connection originates at the femur and ends at the fibula. The most common way that the LCL is injured or torn is when a traumatic impact occurs on the inside of the knee.
  • The MCL, similar to the PCL and ACL, is attached from the femur to the tibia. An MCL tear commonly occurs due to a direct impact to the knee.

MCL Surgery And Recovery

Modern surgical techniques have made knee surgery extremely simple and risk-free. The surgeon uses tiny tools that go inside of the knee and locate the MCL tear. The surgeon is then able to repair the tear. Due to the fact that large incisions no longer need to be made in order to access these types of injuries, recovery time is drastically shortened.

Shortly after surgery, a physical therapist will begin to work with the patient and come up with a rehabilitation plan. The first thing that needs to be accomplished is that the patient needs to regain complete range of motion. Once full range of motion is established, weight training can be added to the rehabilitation plan. Once the physical therapist and patient are confident that the knee is healed, the patient is given the go ahead to go back to doing their normal activities.

Seth Rollins is considered to be an elite athlete. Due to his job in a very physical sport, his rehabilitation team will make sure that his knee is fully healed before he will be allowed to return to the full contact that is expected with WWE superstars.

Do you think that Seth Rollins will be able to compete in a match against Triple H at WrestleMania 33 or will his role consist of mainly a run in?
