Donald Trump Approval Ratings Hit Lowest Among Past POTUS

Donald Trump has set a new approval ratings record of being the first president to hit a negative rating on his first month in position.

It’s only been a little over a month since Donald Trump was inaugurated as the President of the United States and he’s already setting record lows on various approval rating polls, according to AOL.

According to a Gallup poll conducted mid February, a month into the inauguration of Donald Trump, President Trump scored a low 40 percent approval rating. While Gallup notes that U.S. presidents from 1938 to 2017 average a 53 percent approval rating over the course of their service, Donald Trump’s approval rating this early in his appointment as POTUS is a historic low.

Apparently, U.S. Presidents tend to hold their highest approval ratings during the first month, which tends to play around the 51 to 72 mark—before Donald Trump, that is. Donald Trump is the first president to score a negative approval rating, down to 40 percent, as early as his first month in service.

It should be noted, however, that there have been discrepancies in Donald Trump’s approval ratings across varying polling organizations.

By the first week of March, Gallup‘s approval ratings scores of Donald Trump are at 43 percent. Gallup measures the daily approval rating of Donald Trump based on telephone interviews with approximately 1,500 national adults.

Rasmussen Reports, on the other hand, puts Donald Trump at a better approval rating of 53 percent. Rasmussen collects data via telephone surveys of 500 likely voters per night, and through online survey tool interviews with “randomly selected participants from a demographically diverse panel.”

The Pew Research Center over at People Press reports an even lower approval rating for Donald Trump, putting him at 39 percent by February 2017. According to their research, only 37 percent of Americans consider Trump trustworthy (in comparison to Obama’s 76 percent), only 39 percent consider Trump well-informed (in comparison to Obama’s 79 percent), a 50 percent of the populace thinks Trump is able to get things done (in comparison to Obama’s 70 percent), and again only 34 percent thinks Trump is a good communicator (in comparison to Obama’s 92 percent).

It should be noted, however, that despite the discrepancies in Donald Trump’s approval ratings, one factor seems to stand out: that Donald Trump is raking in terrible approval ratings this early in his service, compared to all his predecessors.

Many media outlets believe that one of the major reasons for the decline in Donald Trump’s approval ratings stems from the travel ban policy that he has issued in February, which has aroused several mobilizations and rallies throughout the world. Interestingly, however, the Independent reports that a CNN Poll divides the Americans almost evenly in this particular issue. From the 1,002 adults asked by the CNN Poll, 53 percent opposed the travel ban, while 47 percent are in favor of it.

But again, despite the many polls that paint Donald Trump’s approval ratings a sorry picture, the POTUS claims that all of these are “fake news.”

Of course, media outlets and polls like CNNare retaliating and explains that “professional polling is scientific, not political, in nature.” Critics of Donald Trump back professional polls and regard Donald Trump’s “denialism” of his approval ratings a bad sign.

If numbers are to be believed, Donald Trump’s approval ratings since his inauguration has steadily declined and it only points to a single conclusion: if this trend continues, Trump is set to hit rock bottom any time soon.
