Stafon Johnson can’t move or speak but he can tweet

There’s not much USC running back Stafon Johnson is allowed to do at the moment, recuperating from surgery after a weightlifting accident which led to his throat and larynx being crushed on Monday. But he has reached out to all his wellwishers via Twitter.

Johnson has created a Twitter account under the nickname of @stafon13, and his opening tweet late on Wednesday read: “Thank you every1 4 all the love and support”.

Johnson has been immobilised by doctors who want to keep his head and neck still after the complex surgical procedure, which was performed on the day of the accident.

Coaching staff from the USC program have been allowed to visit, but for Johnson’s team mates it’s back to practise in preparation for Saturday’s game against California. USC is currently ranked 7th in the nation while Cal is 24th, both with 3-1 records so far this season.

Joe McKnight and Allen Bradford will carry the load at the tailback position in Johnson’s absence.
