Lauren Scruggs Talks About Recovery, Looking In The Mirror After Accident [Video]

Lauren Scruggs, with her new eye and prosthetic arm revealed on Twitter last week, has now sat down with NBC’s Today show to discuss the accident that changed her life.

It’s been almost a whole year since Scruggs, a model and fashion blogger, accidentally walked into a plane propeller while exiting a small plane in Texas, losing her left arm. The story of her physical and emotional recovery played out over the following months. In that time, Scruggs lost her eye, launched a lawsuit against the plane’s pilot and insurers, and took her first vacation since the accident.

Speaking to Today‘s Natalie Morales, Lauren Scruggs talked about her reaction the first time she looked in the mirror:

“I think I just saw the reality of what had happened. I had my eye patch on, I didn’t have my hand and half my head was shaved. I was just thinking ‘Wow.’ I mean again how life can change in an instant, and how that’s not the way I have looked in the past.”

Thanks to a combination of skilled surgeons and the wonders of modern medicine, Scruggs is now close to looking like her old self. The model and blogger also underwent an intense, month-long course of therapy at the Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas to relearn basic skills.

The full Today interview will air Friday morning, but you can catch a clip below. It’s heartening to see Lauren looking so well:
