Cesar Millan Reveals Suicide Attempt After Dog’s Death

The usually tranquil Cesar Millan has been riding a rough road, and now the dog trainer is opening up about his journey bouncing back after a suicide attempt.

While Cesar now has a new television show, two years ago things were pretty rough for the Dog Whisperer. He has now revealed in an upcoming Nat Geo Wild documentary that he attempted suicide after the death of his pit bull dog, Daddy, and after the dissolution of his 16-year marriage from his wife, who he shares two sons with.

During the Nat Geo special Cesar Millan said, “It was hard, because I wasn’t expecting it.” he said of his wife filing for divorce. “I went into a big depression. I lost a lot of weight. And I felt that I lost the most important thing, which was my family.”

Luckily for Millan, the dog enthusiast survived his overdose. His special about his bout with depression that resulted in thoughts of suicide airs November 25, just in time for Thanksgiving. The Dog Whisperer attributed working out to gaining back control of his life, and his sanity.

However, just because his marriage ended doesn’t mean Millan gave up on love. In fact, he turned a new page with girlfriend Jahira Dar, and is thinking about popping the question, but like any gentlemen, Cesar’s considering asking permission from her parents first. “I know they are going to say yes, but I like the whole Cinderella story,” said Millan.

Cesar Millan went on to say about the ups and downs of his life, “I don’t know about the ending yet. I’m just glad I can tell the story. Hopefully people get inspired, they get motivated. It doesn’t matter where you come from. Really what I would like for people to get out of this is just to not lose hope, no matter what happens. You should never lose hope.”

Millan’s new show Leader of the Pack, which was filmed in Spain, is set to premiere on the Nat Geo Wild channel in January. Will you be watching his new show?
