China’s Lunar Surface Map Completed

Beijing, China (AHN) – China’s lunar surface map in three dimension and high resolution has been completed, according to the country’s state-owned media.
The map is based on images taken by China’s first moon prober, the Chang’e-1, launched in October 2007. It will be the world’s fifth map of the moon; the U.S., Russia, Japan and India have the same map taken by their respective probers.
The map will be used to guide an unmanned lunar rover that China will send to the moon by 2012 as well as help scientists study the moon’s geology, survey officials said. Likewise, the same map will be used in the more ambitious goal of landing Chinese astronauts on the moon.
