Toyota recall list affects 3.8 million vehicles

Car manufacturer Toyota has issued a recall of 3.8 million vehicles in the United States due to their mats interfering with the accelerator.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the removable mats can cause the accelerator to become jammed, not something you’d particularly want to happen while you were driving down the street.

The issue with the loose mats first came to attention last month when a Lexus crashed in San Diego killing a family of four people. According to reports, the driver of that vehicle rang police one minute before the crash to say that the accelerator was stuck, the brakes were not working and he had no way of stopping the vehicle.

The Toyota recall list includes the 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES 350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS 250 and IS350. Drivers with vehicles on the recall list should immediately remove their mats and take the vehicle to their local Toyota dealership.
