Elizabeth Banks’ New Son Arrives

Elizabeth Banks’ new son has arrived in the world, giving the actress and husband Max Handelman a second little boy for their family.

The 38-year-old Hunger Games and Pitch Perfect star gave birth to Magnus Mitchell Handelman earlier this week and announced his arrival in a message posted to her website on Wednesday. Elizabeth Banks’ son will join 20-month-old big brother Felix at the Banks-Handelman residence. Banks writes:

“As 2012 winds down and Thanksgiving approaches, I have much for which to be thankful – personal, professional, and Presidential. However, nothing can match the joy and excitement my husband and I felt when we recently welcomed our second baby boy. Magnus joins older brother Felix, thus commencing a decade or more of close hand to hand combat.

“Like Felix, Magnus was born via gestational surrogate. This experience has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime. I am also so very thankful to our family and friends for their support throughout this process, as well as the Center for Surrogate Parenting for helping make all this possible.

“I now turn my attention to managing two boys under two. For which I am thankful. And all their poop. For which I am less thankful. Wish me luck.”

Elizabeth Banks’ son fulfils a prediction made by the actress in an August 2011 interview where she talked up her love of motherhood:

“I underestimated the amount of joy it brings. I am learning all about my capacity for joy. I’d love a bigger family, but I don’t want to say I’m not completely satisfied with my perfect one. The journey to my one was very long so I don’t know. Maybe we’ll do two.”

Congrats to the happy new parents and a warm welcome to Elizabeth Banks’ son!
