WWE Rumors: Elimination Chamber Update, NXT TakeOver Title Match, Eva Marie

WWE rumors are always a melting point of things that could, should, or might happen in the biggest pro wrestling company on the planet. In the latest WWE rumors, there’s an update to Sunday’s Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship, news on the NXT Championship match for NXT TakeOver on WrestleMania 33 weekend and an NXT taping, word on Eva Marie’s status with WWE, and a note on Ring of Honor.

Sunday night brings a return for the WWE Elimination Chamber event after the pay-per-view suffered a few years where it was not always used. The Elimination Chamber has been a fan-favorite match ever since WWE introduced the concept in 2002, but very practical reasons have made it difficult for WWE to run the Elimination Chamber event more often. Many modern arenas have a large screen and/or scoreboard positioned above the floor, which makes it difficult if not impossible for WWE to hang the giant structure.

WWE has been promoting Sunday’s event as having an “all-new” Elimination Chamber. WWE rumors suggest that the company has made some minor tweaks to the structure of the Elimination Chamber that could make it look a little different, but, more practically, it could allow WWE to hang the chamber above the ring in arenas with a scoreboard so it can run the match more regularly.

Turning to WrestleMania 33 weekend, and it seems a challenger for Booby Roode’s NXT Championship has emerged. It appears that Kassius Ohno, the former Chris Hero, is lined up for the title shot at NXT TakeOver that weekend, according to Cageside Seats. It seemed that Ohno was on a collision course with former champion Shinsuke Nakamura when he appeared following a dark match at the end of an NXT taping and gestured towards the title on Nakamura’s shoulder. However, Nakamura lost the title to Roode at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio.

Ohno getting a title shot suggests that Nakamura will get his rematch on NXT’s TV show, perhaps from filming a match at a house show, before possibly moving up to the main roster at WrestleMania 33, or Raw or SmackDown Live in the following days. Ohno being slotted for the WrestleMania weekend title match will also disappoint fans of Tye Dillinger, many of whom are hoping The Perfect 10 will take on Roode for the championship, giving closure to his long-running underdog story.

Meanwhile, NXT will hold a TV taping at its Full Sail University home base on April 5, extending WrestleMania week to six days of live WWE events. The week starts with the WWE Hall of Fame before winding through NXT TakeOver, WrestleMania 33, Raw, SmackDown Live, then the NXT taping.

On the main roster, the future looks somewhat fuzzy for Eva Marie. She has been off WWE television for several months to appear in movies. According to WWE rumors, there’s been talk of Eva Marie moving on from the company. However, she is still under contract with WWE and it seems as though she will remain a part of the organization, at least for the time being. And who knows in this crazy time for the wrestling business? Maybe she’ll even feature in the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania 33.

Lastly, Ring of Honor is going through some announcing changes at the minute, with Steve Corino leaving to take up a coaching role at the WWE Performance Center and Kevin Kelly opting to prioritize his work with New Japan Pro Wrestling. It seems Kelly will still have a role with Ring of Honor, even if he isn’t working full time there.
