Film Director Roman Polanski Arrested On ’70s Rape Charges

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) – Award-winning film director Roman Polanski was arrested by Swiss authorities on rape charges in connection with a warrant issued by California officials 31 years ago.

Polanski, 76, was taken into custody by police in Zurich after detectives there raided his hotel room. He was in the city attending a film festival.

The director of films like Rosemary’s Baby, China Town and the Pianist, pleaded guilty in 1977 of having sex with a 13-year-old girl. He has not returned to the United States ever since.

His lawyers recently appealed the guilty verdict because they say the now-dead judge improperly colluded with prosecutors.
