MTV EMAs: Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber Bring Home Multiple Awards

MTV European Music Awards

Frankfurt, Germany – Country music star Taylor Swift brought home three honors at this year’s MTV European Music Awards, according to Yahoo! Music.

“Drei? Drei? I can’t believe you gave me three awards,” Swift said in amazement.

Although she was nominated in five different categories, the musician only took home three awards: Best Female, Best Live, and Best Look. Considering she left this year’s Country Music Awards empty-handed, these wins had to feel pretty good.

Justin Bieber, who recently performed at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, also managed to snag three awards over the course of the evening. In addition winning for Best Male yet again, the singer won statues for Best Pop and Best World Stage.

Fellow pop star Rihanna was nominated for six awards, the highest of all the other nominees. Unfortunately for the controversial performer, she didn’t take home a single honor. Carly Rae Jepsen, on the other hand, won Best Song and Best Push, which spotlights budding talent.

According to the Daily Mail, South Korean sensation Psy was joined by former Baywatch star and German music favorite David Hasselhoff for a performance of his international hit “Gangnam Style”. The actor’s appearance reportedly included a bit with him on a toilet.

The clip for his popular tune won Best Video, an honor which seemed to overwhelm the performer.

“This is beautiful. This is my very first time to participate, perform, be nominated, as an Asian artist, as Korean artist, so I don’t know what to say,” he said backstage.

As of this writing, “Gangnam Style” style has enjoyed over 700 million views on YouTube and has received over 5 million likes on Facebook. As a result of his popularity in the US, Psy explained that his next album will contain a few English language songs.

Among the performers at this year’s event were Alicia Keys, No Doubt, The Killers, and Muse. Keys dazzled those in attendance with renditions of her hits “Girl on Fire” and “New Stage” while No Doubt rocked things out a bit with “Looking Hot.”

Of course, the celebrities who made an appear on the red carpet at the award’s ceremony over the weekend drew as much attention as the winners. Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, and Heidi Klum were among the stars that turned heads as they made their way into the Festhalle for the show.
