Phil Jackson Wants Scottie Pippen On Lakers Coaching Staff

Phil Jackson could reunite with another superstar if he takes the open coaching job with the Los Angeles Lakers. Jackson has reportedly told Lakers owner Jim Buss that he wants Brian Shaw and former Chicago Bulls player Scottie Pippen to join his coaching staff.

Jackson, who won 6 NBA championships with Pippen in Chicago, is the front runner to fill the shoes of the recently fired Mike Brown. Jackson is reportedly close to signing a two-year deal worth more than $20 million.

The legendary coach met with the Lakers on Saturday and is expected to meet again with the team today. Jackson is currently working on the details of his return and has reportedly asked the Lakers to add Brian Shaw and Scottie Pippen to the coaching staff.

Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News, writes:

“Jackson is looking at adding Scottie Pippen, his former Chicago Bulls star, to his staff.”

Shaw and Pippen both have a long history with Jackson. Shaw played under Jackson during three of the Laker’s championships and Pippen won six rings with the help of the legendary coach. Shaw is currently the assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers so it may be difficult for the Lakers to obtain his services. Pippen, on the other hand, has been looking for a coaching job and should be eager to join the Lakers staff.

Do you think Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson will reunite in Los Angeles? Will the Lakers be able to steal Shaw away from the Pacers?
