Spain-Switzerland Davis Cup Clash Could Mean A Federer-Nadal Showdown

Geneva, Switzerland (AHN) – The Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal rivalry could take another turn after Spain drew Switzerland in the opening round in the 2010 Davis Cup.
The top-ranked Federer, who helped the Swiss team in getting past Italy this past weekend, has never played Nadal, the Australian Open champ, in the elite men’s tennis competition between nations.
In their Davis Cup encounters, the Spanish side leads the Swiss 4-1. Switzerland last hoisted the Davis Cup crown in 1946.
In this year’s final, the Spaniards are slated to defend its Davis Cup title at home against the Czech Republic from Dec. 4-6.
Other first round draws include the United States vs. Serbia, while the Czech Republic will face Belgium.
The Germans and Sweden will play host against France and Argentina, respectively. India, on the other hand, will test the Russian squad.
Also slated to play in the first round scheduled from March 5-7 are Ecuador against Croatia, while Chile will play Israel.
Nadal, the former world No.1, holds a 13-7 advantage in career meetings against the Grand Slam record holder Federer.
Both players have yet to commit to a possible March matchup.
