2012 Tour De France Winner And British Olympic Hero Is Run Over Whilst Cycling Near His Home

2012 Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins was involved in a collision with a car that was leaving a petrol station as he rode around the Lancastrian town of Chorley on Wednesday evening.

Wiggins has since been released from hospital after spending a night there, where he was treated for several rib and hand injuries. The 32-year-old Team Sky rider was kept in overnight purely for observation.

Dr Richard Freeman of Team Sky stated, “He is now going to spend the weekend at home convalescing with his family.” Initial worries had been that he’d broken several ribs and his index finger on his right hand.

“Bradley has been discharge from hospital after suffering minor injuries, including bruises to his right hand and ribs,” added Freeman.”But he is expected to make a full and speedy recovery.”

Wiggins was treated at the Royal Preston Hospital overnight but it has since been revealed that he only succumbed to minor injuries during the crash. The driver of the car who collided with Wiggins was controlling a Vauxhal Astra car and was not injured but will be spoken to by officers later today.

An eyewitness stated, “I was in the office and I heard a screeching of tyres and a bang. I ran outside and there was a gentleman on the pavement – I didn’t realise who it was at first. He was in a lot of pain.”

Wiggins is favorite to be named the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year later on this year after he became the first ever British winner of the Tour de France in July.
